I came across a great idea when browsing the Pancakes and French Fries blog by Jules. She challenged herself to read all the unread books in her home before buying more. The last time I checked, she had 45 books on her list, many of which she has now read.
“There’s no way I’d have that many unread books in my bookcase,” was my first thought. I knew there’d be quite a few, but in hindsight I was over-confident.
When I made my own list, I found 52 unread books, after subtracting five I could donate, and three I could transfer to my husband’s shelves so I didn’t have to count them. Even if I read one book every two weeks (and don’t add any more to my collection), it will take at least two years to get through them all!
If I really want a book I’ll still buy it, but I want to concentrate on reading my way through the volumes I've already invested in.
One of the hallmarks of being extra organised is paring down to our treasures, and then making full use of them. This challenge is a fantastic way of doing so with our books.
